“The righteous shall live by faith” (Galatians 3:11)
Before we get started, what does faith mean?
The definition of faith is complete trust and confidence in someone or something. Having faith in God is believing that His word is true and He abides by His word. Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). By fully trusting in Him, the Holy Spirit can guide your life so that you can glorify God in everything that you do. Now, God does not expect you to have an enormous amount of faith in Him, especially at the beginning of your relationship with our Almighty King. God only requires faith the size of a mustard seed (Matthew 17:20). Do you know exactly how small a mustard seed is? For reference, look at the following image.
God will use such a small amount of faith and turn it into something you would never even think was possible without Him. With God, all things are possible. God does not need perfect people to come to Him. He does not require us to have everything figured out on our own. It is the complete opposite, as we see in the Bible. Jesus used liars, drunks, adulterers, and prostitutes to walk with Him and spread the gospel. Now, is that an excuse to knowingly sin? No! However, that is to show you how God can work within us. When we fully surrender, believe, and have faith in Him and His word, He will change us completely and for the better.
Without establishing faith in Christ, it’s essentially calling God a liar—that you don't believe He will get you out of that circumstance or give you the job He promised you. That's like building a house on sand. No matter how big and glamorous the house may seem on the outside, it won't survive a storm due to its shaky foundation (Matthew 7:26). The purpose of having faith in God is to truly believe in Him and all He is, to believe that He can get you through any situation in the limited life we are granted.
If you are someone who would love to build a strong and stable foundation with our Lord God and are asking yourself, “How can I increase my faith?” The answer is quite simple: pray. Pray to God. He says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened" (Matthew 7:7-8). God wants us to put faith in Him wholeheartedly.
No matter if you just started your journey with Christ yesterday, today, or five years ago, we all could use a little more faith. If you are feeling hopeless and ready to give up, if you are ready to have God in your life and be faithful to Him, pray the following prayer.
Prayer:
Father God, I come to you, seeking the real you. God, I pray that you forgive me for all my sins, known and unknown.
Lord, I fully surrender to you. I give up all control over everything in my life. I no longer want to seek the things of this world that do not glorify you or your kingdom.
God, help me to increase my faith in you. Help me to be obedient and obey your every word. Help me to be able to discern what is from you and what is against you.
God, I need you. I cannot do this on my own.
Lord, I am knocking on your door and asking you to help me become a faithful steward in your Kingdom of Light.
In Jesus' name, I pray.
Amen!
Now that you have prayed about it, believe it, and receive it!
"Therefore I tell you, everything you pray and ask for —believe that you have received it and it will be yours." Mark 11:24
